I'm no speedrunner but I still occasionally claw-grip in Souls games when traversing from point A to point B quickly, since I like having full control over the camera, and this is especially useful when trying to zigzag/run past enemies. The auto-tracking on the camera in Souls isn't that great, so it can be useful.
